All web camera have been taken off-line due to the start of the stormy season. News year new chances.
Cam2 has been deactivated. All the moon sets in the northern standstill limit direction are during day time and the moon would not be visible due to the sun's glare (or clouds). This also to minimize the effect of storm damage.

I visited the Calanais region. Had a great time and there was a moon visible on Sept 29th, 2006! So the day that the moon was at its lowest path. Video were made at Calanais I and Calanais III.

Again Cam1 was turned on purpose to the ground...
It seems some 'naughty children' have done some work on Cam1. At least that is how I describe these ('adult') people that did something to the Calanais web camera.
So we disabled Cam1 temporarily. A pity we have to give in to these 'naughty children', but that seems to be the only way. It is amazing that the people who made this event known (like me and others) and thus are the very reason why these 'naughty children' are there, are now confronted with these acts.
With these acts of behavior, I always must think about the advertizements on the Dutch televisions, which depict the vandalizers as small naughty children in diaper. And that is how I indeed see them.
Also, who are they that they are soo elite? Why is the event only for these 'naughty children'. Why are others (not so lucky to be able to travel to Calanais) not allowed to see such an event? I thought that we wanted to share these unique experiences!!! Amazing and very very sad in our enlightened world.
And I am disgusted by it.
Asking Western Isles County, Historic Scotland and Calanais Visitor Centre for traffic measures around Calanais I. To try to keep the number of vehicles at a low level near the stones 8 and 19 for the July sourthern event.

Software (JPGAvi) has been donated by NDrW for making a video out of the jpg-files gotten from the web camera. A JAVA program has been written by David Bosschaert to grab and time stamping automatically the two jpg-files from the web sites onto a local machine (for processing by JPGAvi).
New camera for Cam1 has arrived by snail mail (customs have they their time;-). Cam2 is operational at the correct location

Clouded skies, so no moon visible (a pity, this would have been a second best major southern standstill limit event).

The first moon rise has been witnessed (not yet with proper camera, which is at the customs). The set was barely visible by eye, so certainly not on the web cam. Beside the Moon also Jupiter was visible on the web cam. A CD-ROM has ben made of this event.

Near northern standstill event. Moon was visible one hour before moon set, than clouds came in. It is not easy to see a first quarter moon in the bright sky, but the web camera picked it more or less up.

Had an interview on Oct. 7th with Grampain TV at Calanais I, which is broadcasted during North tonight (between 18:00 and 18:30).
Victor has visited a lot of people during my stay at Lewis (Emma and Stewart Mitchell, Cathy Leary, Donna Campbell, Mairi Thomson. Ronald and Margaret Curtis, Stephen Whitehead and Donald Smith). Had a very enjoyable stay with Emma and Stewart of the Callanish Blackhouse Tearoom. This helps me further define the project. I will soon provide more information on the project plan.
No demonstration web-broadcast has been done due to bad weather during the whole period.
The first demonstration of the webcam (using USB video grabber, camcorder and ISpy).
Booked trip to Calanais from Oct. 4 until Oct. 8th to visit Calanais and inventorize things for the webcam.
Positive feedback from Callanish Blackhouse Tearoom to investigate if a web camera can be placed on their premises. Nothing sure yet, but things are starting to roll!
Calanais Visitor Centre communicated that no major problem exists with this project as long as communicated properly with Historic Scotland, which is being done. Approval of Historic Scotland is depending on a more detailed plan.

First idea about a web cam on major standstill limit was voiced by Andy Burnham in an e-mail to Victor Reijs, because of the experience with the web camera at Maeshowe.
